We showed the Ford F150 that we converted to a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) to a reception for participants in the California Clean Innovation Conference (CACI), Thursday evening at UC San Diego.

A collaboration among the Rady School of Management at UC San Diego, the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, and Caltech, CACI 2009 is happening today. An opportunity for attendees to expand their knowledge of clean technology, and to network with industry leaders, this year’s conference is focused on the themes of new energy, transportation and water technologies, and how these will affect the future.

Keynote speakers include San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, Amit Kumar, Ph.D., president and CEO of CombiMatrix Corp., and Peter C. Fusaro, chairman of Global Change Associates.

We were impressed by the enthusiasm of the attendees, and the dedication of the CACI leadership team, led by Marc Potash.

With a focus on providing a broader understanding of the issues facing clean technology, and a real drive to promote clean tech innovation through all aspects of society and the economy, this is a group that is making a positive impact!

We were among the participants in Saturday’s “Inauguration Parade West,” Saturday in Santa Monica.

The event was organized by Plug In America to draw attention to recent advances in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology, and the growing adoption of these vehicles by the driving public.

Speakers included Chris Payne, director of “Who Killed the Electric Car,” Santa Monica City Councilman Kevin McKeown, and California State Senator Fran Pavley.

Andy Frank, Ph.D. of UC Davis, considered the father of plug in hybrid technology, rode in a converted Ford F150.

“This is a great day,” said Frank. “It’s a demonstration of how far we’ve come with this technology. And what’s really great about the Plug In Hybrid solution it’s practical for fleet owners and individual motorists. You don’t have to buy a new vehicle to drive a hybrid!”
