<p>Not around ports at least, which is why a growing number of cargo ships are now doing double duty as floating garages. <img class="alignright size-full wp-image-176" style="margin: 10px;" title="cars_on_ship" src="http://grrreen.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/cars_on_ship.jpg" alt="cars_on_ship" width="180" height="240" /></p>
<p><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/02/transport-ships-as-parking-lots.php" target="_blank">Treehugger.com</a> points to <a href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/fdfc9372-f25a-11dd-9678-0000779fd2ac.html" target="_blank">an article from the Financial Times detailing the trend</a>.</p>
<blockquote><p>Car manufacturers are increasingly using ships to store excess vehicles because ports&#8217; parking areas have become overwhelmed by the build-up of unsold vehicles&#8230;</p>
<p>Some ports have run out of storage space as recently imported cars or vehicles awaiting export sit unsold following the sudden fall in demand.</p></blockquote>
<p>What will happen to this huge inventory? Prices will have to fall.</p>
<p>Do you think some of these vehicles could regain value by being converted to more fuel-efficient plug-in hybrids?</p>
